The CO Research Trust has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees of its inaugural CO Research Conference, the charity revealed, raising hopes that there will be a significant number of grant applications for this year’s funding cycle.
During the conference, delegates heard presentations from leading researchers talking about groundbreaking research projects, including one from the University of Hertfordshire. The team there are developing a strong candidate for a new biomarker of CO exposure in the form of pupillometry, which has not been considered before.
The Conference presentations inspired lively and constructive debate at the Sandpit event on day two, the purpose of which was intended to provide the opportunity to develop collaborations and research partnerships.
Baroness Finlay, Chair of the CO Research Trust Board said ‘What became very clear across all three discussion groups in the Sandpit event was the need for reliable data in order to influence policy. When you’ve got properly collected data, over a period of time it can’t be argued with.’
She continued. ‘The other thing that emerged from the Sandpit event was the importance of Co-production, doing the research jointly with the people who are actually affected by the issue. The collaboration of different groups coming together to carry out larger research projects becomes very powerful. I think we can learn from the covid research group.’
Adrian McConnell, Head of Charitable Operations at the CO Research Trust said. ‘The calibre of speakers who presented at our first ever CO Research Conference was outstanding. We were proud to be able to bring together the brightest minds in the field of CO Research and are hopeful that the outcome of the Conference will be the development of further groundbreaking scientific research projects.’
