The CO Research Trust has announced the launch of a poster competition, dedicated to the memory of former Chair, Chris Bielby MBE.

Chris sadly passed away in July 2022 after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. He was a Trustee of the CO Research Trust (formerly the Gas Safety Trust) and was the Chair for more than ten years, remaining an active contributor despite his illness, generously sharing his insights and knowledge.

Chris spent his whole career in the gas industry, with safety being the common thread.

To honour Chris’ passion and commitment to safety and developing people, the CO Research Trust has launched the Chris Bielby CO Research Award. This is a poster competition, specifically aimed at researchers and academics beginning their research careers, who are focusing on the area of carbon monoxide research.

Applicants are invited to submit a poster, along with a 250-word synopsis, to illustrate their current research project.

Three finalists will be short-listed and will be invited to present their posters during the CO Research Conference on 14th June in Sheffield. The winner will be selected on the day.

Chief Executive of CORT, Adrian McConnell said.

"As well as being a great friend to us all, Chris Bielby was a great supporter of people. Throughout his long career, Chris made a point of developing, encouraging, and supporting people at the early stages of their careers, with carbon monoxide safety being at the heart of his work. We feel that highlighting and supporting up-and-coming projects to improve safety would be something that Chris would have approved of".

Applicants can submit their entries via email to kimberly@coresearchtrust.org.

The deadline for submission is Friday 5th May 2023.

Terms and conditions of the competition can be found here.
