Job Title: Events and Communications Officer

£30,000 per annum, pro rata

Home-based (with attendance at events and meetings required)

Fixed contract 8 January 2024 – 31 March 2024 term time only. This is 11 working weeks. We are recruiting this role with a view to it possibly becoming permanent

(Part-time, term time only – days and times by agreement - Tues/Wed/Thurs preferred but flexible) 20 hours per week.


The CO Research Trust (formerly known as the Gas Safety Trust) is the leading carbon monoxide (CO) research charity, established in 2005.

Our vision is a world where people are not exposed to CO. We fight CO poisoning in all settings through funding ground-breaking scientific research.

We have a small, friendly team who work to deliver the goals of the Trust and work closely with the board of Trustees.


Over the past 2 years the CO Research Trust (CORT) has embarked on a programme of events, and stakeholder engagement activities both in-person and online. We are now seeking an experienced Events and Communications Officer to help us drive this work forward.

The successful applicant will report to the Head of Communications and help organise events for CORT, including our annual conference, whilst also contributing to the charity’s wider communications and marketing activities.


To support the delivery of the CORT events and communications programme:

  • Support the planning, delivery and marketing of our online and in-person events
  • Venue research and liaison
  • Managing production of event materials
  • Managing delegate lists, sending our invitations and monitoring responses
  • Assisting and supporting speakers and facilitators (this can include booking travel, accommodation, compiling presentations)
  • Contributing to the creation of the event budget
  • Assist with marketing of event via social media, email (using Mail Chimp) and website activities, including creating copy and collateral as required
  • At events representing the CORT team, providing delegate assistance, event logistics (AV, registration, venue liaison etc)
  • Attend team meetings in London every 6 weeks and attend our annual conference and other face to face events as required (notice will always be given for this)
  • Providing administration assistance for specific board-level meetings


  • A background in events/communications and office experience within a busy and fast-paced office is essential
  • A minimum 3 years of previous experience in an events management / communications role
  • A flexible and adaptable attitude, able to work independently as well as part of a small team, working remotely
  • Proven multi-tasking experience, and the ability to work under pressure
  • High standard of written English, with fast and accurate keyboard skills, copywriting experience a plus!
  • Highly organised and structured in your approach to task management
  • Enthusiastic, trustworthy individual with a can-do attitude
  • You will be reliable and willing to go the extra mile
  • Experience of Office 365 and associated packages; comfortable with technology and systems, including online events management software such as Zoom, Teams; Social Media platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn; other communication packages eg MailChimp, Canva
